Town centre development plans on view

DETAILS of the three schemes that have been shortlisted for the multi-million pound redevelopment of Hinckley’s town centre bus station site have now been published, together with artists' impressions.

A series of special exhibitions will be held in the town this week, at which the three proposals from St. Modwen, Ashcroft Estates/Wilson Bowden and Henry Boot can be viewed.

Officers will be on hand to answer questions and all comments made will then be taken into account in advance of interviews with each developer.

For the moment, the council is not identifying which scheme has been designed by which developer, as it doesn't want the public's opinion to be swayed by familiarity with a developer's name.

Instead, the proposals have been simply labelled Scheme A, Scheme B and Scheme C,

Scheme A (click for images) has the following features:

* six-screen cinema

* health suite

* 20 retail units

* foodstore

* 570 space car park

Scheme B (click for images) has the following features:

* five-screen cinema

* 13 shops

* three restaurants

* foodstore

* hotel

* health suite

* 763 space car park

Scheme C (click for images) has the following features:

* cinema above a supermarket

* department store

* 20 smaller retail units

* hotel

* 600 space car park

The public consultation exhibition will be staffed by council officers on the following dates:

Friday 9th May (10am – 6pm): council offices*

Saturday 10th May (10.30am – 3.30pm): Hinckley Library

Sunday 11th May (11.30am – 3.30pm): Hinckley Leisure Centre

Council Leader Councillor David Bill said: “I very much hope that everyone who has an interest in this town will come along and make their views known. If we get it right, everyone stands to benefit.”

Following the interviews with developers in mid May, it is expected that the preferred development partner will be announced in June.

Work will then begin on the submission of a planning application designed to bring about the regeneration of a key site in Hinckley town centre.

*Officers from Leicestershire County Council will be available to answer questions on highway issues on Friday 9th May from 3pm until 5pm.
