AS the final match approaches, the winners of this season’s Interdivisional Trophy will be either Trojans or Hinckley Phoenix. Trojans have already completed their matches, while the Phoenix need to beat Prince of Wales - and score 11 or more - to win on average. In this week’s matches, Trojans saw off stiff opposition from Taylor and Ayre. Trojans' first half scored an impressive nine points out of a possible 10 with some good shooting all round. T & A hadn’t quite woken up yet though and their fist half resulted in six points, thanks mainly to Michelle Griffin and Sara Towers. After the break Trojans' Rob Forman shot a fine maximum for two points and Karen Sills and Emma Sik both added another two points to give a total of 15. It was all over bar the shouting but T and A put up a good fight, with two pointers coming from Sharen Miles, Wayne Lloyd Hughes and Dan Kennell to give T & A a total of 13 points. Bombers suffered from having just the bare eight squad members in their 9–13 defeat by Smallshaws, whose fist half laid down eight points, the hot shots being Chris Slim and Neil Daffern both with 28 for two points each. Bombers' top man was Norman Hall with 27, which also scored two, but the rest of their first half could only manage another two points between them. In the second half Smallshaws' Bob West had a very good 29 and Derek Wyatt 27 both earning two points. Bombers' second half added another five points to their total but it was too little too late. Sporting Libs hosted Prince of Wales, who were in cracking form, scoring eight points in the first half with Paul Barwell’s 27 showing them the way. The Libs, who have higher averages to beat, found the first half heavy going. Although Ian Roberts scored two points with his 29, Karl Bunting’s 29 only merited one point. Special mention must go to Karl’s marksmanship this season, out of all the shots fired so far this season he has only missed the bull's eye twice! Absolutely magnificent shooting. The Prince’s second half put another seven points on the board to bring their total to an impressive 15 just one short of the maximum 16 points. The Libs began a brave fight back, scoring eight points in the second half though wasn’t quite enough and they closed on 12 points. A seven-strong Stanton squad slunk over to Bedworth to meet the Ex–Services club who were also in fine form and laid down the maximum 10 points in the first half. Ian Skidmore’s fine 30 setting an example for his team and there was also a good 29 for Andrew Cryer. By contrast, Stanton’s first half was dire with only Shaun Smith scoring two points and Adrian Gunn’s 28 reaped one point with Amy Sherd earning another for a first half total of four. Bedworth’s second half saw a pair of excellent 30s for two points each from Bill Bend and Bob Wagstaff plus a single pointer for Rikki Hammersley to bring their total to the near maximum 15 points. Stanton only had two shooters left so were never going to catch up, but made the best of it by both scoring two points (Paul Huddlestone with a fine 30) to bring their final tally to eight points. At Ashby Road it was the battle of the two resident teams. The A team shot first and gained a total of four points in the process, Lorraine White was their hot shot with 27 but only worth one point unfortunately. The B team went slightly better with six points with good shooting from Neil Price (29) and Jon Storer’ s excellent 30 both for two points each. Kim Baker’s 27 provided the final two points. In the second half the A team came out of the blocks too slowly and it wasn’t until Richard White’s 28 and Pete Finney’s fine 30 both for two points each, that they began to make any real headway, but by then it was too late. The B team’s second half was in fine fettle though, laying down eight points and closing with a good 29 for Jeff Goodyer. The final score was Ashby Road A 9-14 Ashby Road B.
