Leaders too strong for United

LEAGUE leaders Fleetwood proved too strong for Hinckley when the two sides met at the Greene King Stadium on Saturday (6th).

The result has helped the visitors' chances of securing the division's only automatic promotion spot, while leaving the Knitters in the play-off zone but looking anxiously over their shoulders at the chasing pack.

The game was effectively won by Fleetwood in the first half. They took an early 10th minute lead and then doubled their advantage with a second goal in the 37th minute.

United resurrect play-off hopes

Ilkeston Town...0

Hinckley Utd....1

(Blue Square North)

AFTER a series of poor results, Hinckley resurrected their play-off hopes with a vital win at Ilkeston Town on Saturday (27th).

The day didn't start very promisingly for United, though, as Chukkie Eribenne picked up a muscle injury in the pre-match warm-up and had to be replaced by youngster Danny Newton.

Yet it was Newton who provided the cross for Dan Dillon to open the scoring just two minutes before half-time.

The Knitters had more chances after the break to kill-off the game, but didn't take them. Consequently, it took a good save from keeper Chris MacKenzie in the last minute to ensure United' welcome victory.
